SUMMARY:Global Oral Health Meeting
DESCRIPTION:From November 26th to 29th\, 2024\, the POHF\, represented by its president\, attended the inaugural WHO Global Oral Health Meeting in Thailand. This event provided an opportunity to network and strengthen global collaborations in oral health among both state and non-state actors. The POHF was one of the global non-state actors that endorsed the Bangkok Declaration (https://cdn.who.int/media/docs/default-source/ncds/mnd/oral-health/bangkok-declaration-oral-health.pdf?sfvrsn=15957742_4). \nDr Vava participated in a side-event where he joined an esteemed panel of speakers to  reflect on a proposed 6×6 non-communicable disease framework that advocates for the inclusion of sugar and oral diseases as the additional two components in the current framework.  At the close of event\, the organisation joined the Global Coalition on Oral Health\, which includes various state and non-state actors committed to supporting the realisation of the global oral health agenda\, as outlined in the Global Oral Health Strategy and the Global Oral Health Action Plan (https://www.who.int/publications/i/item/9789240090538). Following this event\, the POHF is continuing to build on the international partnerships established to enhance its local efforts in advancing oral health equity.

SUMMARY:Oral Health Hike
DESCRIPTION:On the 28th of September 2024 the POHF took to Kings Kloof Trails to #walkfororalhealth and #NonCommunicableDiseases as part of our end to #NationalOralHealthMonth. With a small party we reflected on the importance of integrating oral health as part of general health and the need for structural reforms to improve access to quality and inclusive oral healthcare. \nOne lucky winner of our hike raffle walked away with R500 cash!

SUMMARY:Leadership Induction
DESCRIPTION:On the 6th of April\, our Board and National Council met in Johannesburg for their induction. The induction meant to orientate both structures around the POHF and its mandate. \nIt was an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between the Board and Council in the interest of improving strategic and operational effectiveness. The event was a success. We are thankful to PPS for hosting us and to our sponsors for coming alongside us.
